Energy Upgrades For Roofing Projects

Energy Upgrades for Roofing Projects
Event on 2012-07-12 19:00:00
Event Type: Adult
Date: 7/12/2012
Start Time: 7:00 PM
End Time: 8:30 PM
Description: When major roof repairs or asphalt shingle replacement is being planned, it's a perfect time to consider what else can be done to improve the energy performance of your existing home. Aggressive energy-improving upgrades to existing homes are usually called Deep Energy Retrofits. The most effect results occur when the entire building shell or "envelope" can undergo a Deep Energy Retrofit. But as a practical matter this is usually beyond the cost of most homeowners, even though the long term payoff in energy costs and resale value is there. This presentation will identify simple as well as more difficult but effective options for attic and roof improvements alone. Are vented or unvented roofs better? Should insulation be added at the attic floor or at the roof line? These questions and more will be discussed and illustrated for varying roof conditions found in older homes. Presented by Heights Library in partnership with HRRC, Cleveland Heights Historical Society, Landmarks Commission, FutureHeights, and Cleveland Restoration Society.Library: Lee Road Library
